Outreach

The Thorntown Christian Church is involved in the community offering communion to shut-ins, participating in Angel Food Ministries with the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, working with Habitat for Humanity, sponsoring missionaries locally and abroad (such as Operation Christmas Child), serving as the storm shelter for the town and welcoming all who wish to share Christ.

Our area representative was able to turn in 1,000 Christmas boxes this year!  Our church increased the number of boxes it contributed as did many others.  Thank you for helping us bless those children that may not experience the joy of Christmas without your love and gifts.

We are blessed to be served by Poe's Country Garden Catering and the talents of Gene & Peggy Poe.   Peggy makes the church look wonderful and Gene's food makes it smell wonderful too!  If you haven't tried their meals, come join us at our next event.

Angel Food Ministries is in Thorntown (via the Mechanicsburg Christian Church and the Thorntown Church Association) now.  This is a great opportunity to purchase a box of good food for only $30.  There is no qualification or application, you just order and pay for your food at the beginning of the month and pick up is toward the end of the month.  You can purchase the food for another family or for yourself.  It feeds a family of 4 for about 1 week.  There are specialty boxes of meat, fruits and vegetables, and frozen meals for those who need an quick, easy alternative to food preparation.  We will post the current menus and sign up/pick up times as we receive them.  Food stamps accepted.  With our economy as it is and food prices increasing this is a great way to minister to other people and help your own situations.

Orders will be taken at the Library, during library hours, and distribution is usually the last Saturday of the month from 10-Noon at the Methodist Church. Please check the current newsletter for order and pick-up dates.

Brett has returned from Uganda and his mission trip "Empower a Child".  Please visit his blog below to see his experience.  We are very proud to have a young member embark on such a large mission.   We look forward to his presentation at church to see how God moved him to spread the Word.  Hope you will join us to learn about his experience!
